About This Site - About UsA Message From Robert BacalIn 1992 I left my well paying job, and began my own small business in the training and development industry. I'm not ashamed to tell you that in the first year, inept at and hesitant to "sell", I earned somewhere around $7,000. I soldiered on, learning all the time, and used the time I had on my hands to write, create additional services and market using long term strategies, rather than worry about short term income. The one thing I did do right in the first year was ensure that we could survive even if my initial revenues were poor. I'll spare you all the details, since they'll eventually go in my blog or our book on small business, but it's now 2008, and I'm still standing -- actually succeeding very well with my small business. We're still small, since I think in business terms, that small is beautiful. This site is about sharing resources for people who want to improve how their small businesses function, or may be considering starting a small business. I'll share what I've learned in these pages, plus showcase readings from others who provide excellent thoughts on small business success. One thing. We consider that any methods of earning money designed to have people "get rich quick" are NOT businesses, but ways to fleece unsuspecting people. We also believe that unless a business adds value, it's not really a "business". So you won't find anything about work at home schemes, MLM, or get rich quick schemes on this site. If that's what you want, go elsewhere because you lack both the abilities and the values to make a small business work over time.
